Walking

After summer culture & walking in the Eastern Pyrenees…

If you enjoy the combination of slow-paced walks in overpowering nature surrounded by breath taking cultural monuments, then we might have an ideal program for you. Based in our recently luxuriously restored 13th century Catalan Farmhouse at Domaine Madrona we organise guided walking and cultural sight-seeing day trips for small groups of participants (max. 12 participants).

Culture and walking

We will take you on daily walks to the Cathar strongholds of Chateau de Queribus and Chateau de Peyrepertuse, the abbeys of Saint-Michel de Cuxa, Saint-Martin du Canigou, and the medieval villages of Castelnou and Villefranche de Conflent. The walks are slow paced, adapted to the specific wishes of the participants and will usually take around 2 to 3 hours. Our guides will show you around in each of the sites, will accompany on the walks and will take care of all transport arrangements from and to Domaine Madrona. After the walks you can relax at the pool, enjoy the calmness of nature surrounding Madrona and feast on the dinners prepared by our chefs.

Typical day

A typical day starts with breakfast at 08.00 and a briefing on the walk of the day. We will leave Madrona in our vans to the starting point of the walk at 09.30. The drive to the starting point and the walk itself usually takes between 3 and 4 hours. The walks end at one of the historical sites where we will have a pick-nick lunch prepared by our chefs before we visit the sites. We will return to Madrona at around 16.00. Aperitif and dinner are usually around 19.00. After dinner we will briefly explain the historical aspects of the sites we will be visiting the next day.

Usually September is the month with the best walking weather of the year (not too hot and sunny), but weather being weather we will adapt the program to circumstances.
