Arts & Culture
The Pyrénées Orientales are rich in art history and culture with a multitude of things to discover. From the ancient villages of Castelnou (on our door step), Villefranche de Conflent (nearby), to the artist village of Ceret, the Dali museum in Figueres, the abbey of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa and the wonders of Béziers, Gerona, Barcelona, Montpellier or Toulouse, there is much to discover around Domaine Madrona.
Villages
Castelnou is the closest village to Domaine Madrona and has been nominated one of “the most beautiful villages” in France and a visit to this little gem offers a wonderful journey back in time. The same goes for Villefranche de Conflent, a medieval city fortified by Vauban and Unesco listed. Try not to miss the Romanesque church of Saint-Jacques, Fort Liberia, the ramparts, the caves of the small and large Canalettes, the Costa Bastera cave or simply a guided tour of the village.
Beaches
During late spring and all of summer, the many beach clubs and private beaches near Domaine Madrona, offer relaxed and exotic atmospheres for long swims and even longer lunches or dinners. Ask us to book your reservation or let our private chef put together a delicious picnic to take with you.
Markets
There are many local markets to visit and soak up a bit of local French culture. Whether it’s to buy gifts, food for your private chef to cook at Domaine Madrona or just wander around. From the market in the local village Castelnou, to further a field in Ceret, please ask us and we will give you all the information you need.
